Believers can be judged free to remarry for only three reasons. One of them is "An unbeliever is not pleased to dwell with a believer." A Christian is not “under bondage” for separating from an unbeliever who is not pleased to dwell and departs the marriage. Hostility towards God’s way of life is the key issue; but habitual misconduct such as criminality, addictive behaviors, abuse, desertion or willful failure to provide physical support (1 Timothy 5:8) demonstrates unwillingness to live in peace.The “believer” may need to initiate the legal divorce proceedings. Who constitutes an unbeliever?
